John, welcome home
John Murray, a 2001 graduate of Dunedin
H.S., has recently returned from his third tour of duty with
the Marines in Iraq.
One month before "9/11", John joined the
U.S. Marines and after training he was part of the 3rd
Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division. This division
was one of the first into Baghdad and John was a witness to
the statue of Saddam Hussein being sent crashing to the
ground. With that historic event, they thought the war was
over. Little did John know that he would sped two more tours
in Iraq - at the Hidatha Dam and in Faluja.
On the way to Faluja, John's unit was
caught in a heavy ambush which resulted in the death of his
Lieutenant and the wounding of three of his friends.
