CALLING WOULD-BE ACTORS

Have you ever had a yen to "tread the boards"!!  Well, don't be shy ---- come on down and audition.

The Francis Wilson Playhouse holds open auditions for all of its productions.  Audition notices are printed in the St. Pete Times Weekender as well as a number of local "community" newspapers.  In addition, the theatre sends post cards for each audition.  This is done approximately 10 days prior to auditions.  

Age or ability is no problem, but desire is.  So watch for our audition notices.  If you would like to be placed on our "Actors" list to receive post card notifications, click on the following link and submit information or call the Box Office at (727) 446-1360.  We'll put you in the computer and get you started.

We continuously update our data bases.  If you are an actor who has had a change of address or phone number, please contact our Box Office  and correct your information.  If your audition card is returned as undeliverable your info is deleted.

July 13th and 14th

“High Society”

Needed:

4 Principal Women (25-60)

4 Principal Men (late 20’s-60’s)

 

 

Ensemble 4 Men and 4 Women (20’s-30’s)

 

Synopsis: Cole Porter’s songs give this show the style every High Society wedding dreams of having. Two reporters who want to scrape up a “scandal”, and ex-husband, a mischievous sister, and a yacht named “True Love” all figure in this lilting, song and laugh filled extravaganza.

 

Aug 10th and 11th     

Director: Nonie White

Production Dates:

“Visiting Mr. Green”

 

Oct. 2 – Oct. 12, 2008

Needed:

1 Man (able to play) late 20’s early 30’s

 

 

1 Man (able to play) 70’s to early 80’s

 

Synopsis: Crusty old Jewish widower clashes with rebellious young yuppie.  Here is the oddest pair of characters to ever touch your heartstrings, make you laugh and see how good your life really is.  Reclusive, bitter Mr. Green has a lesson or two for young “I’m too busy for this”” Ross and vice-versa.

Synopsis: This show is for adults with a playful turn of humor.  Dynamic music and dance fill this meaningful story of what six desperate men dare to do to overcome their no-win lives and help Jerry keep custody of his son.  The hilarious scheme forces them to triumph over their fears, their nerves and their clothes. 

 

Sept 21st and 24th

“Any Wednesday”

 

Dec. 4 – Dec. 14, 2008

Needed:

4 Men (30’s-40’s)

Synopsis: It’s the first Thanksgiving after Dad passed away; but Mon’s got a new boyfriend…will the holiday be sad, nostalgic, angry” Not if Dad’s ghost can help it!  This is a funny, healing comedy for the entire family.  It’s the story of a man who loved his family so much, he almost told them.

Very little dancing required

 

Synopsis: Glitz! Glamour! The best of Rodgers & Hammerstein in the grandest possible manner!  The most lyrical, singable and comical of R&H combined to give you a night of romance and fun.  Just say…King & I, South Pacific, Oklahoma, Flower Drum Song, State Fair, Cinderella! 

 

Feb 15th and 16th

Production Dates:

“The Kitchen Witches”

 

Feb. 12 – Feb. 22, 2009

Needed:

2 Men               1 – 25-35    1 – 45-60

 

 

2 Women          1 – 25-35    1 – 45-60

 

Synopsis: See love’s laughable complications when a powerful executive, his mistress, a hopeful business associate, and the “wife” are all mixed up together by the executive’s new secretary.  Just who loves who and how hysterically funny the situation can be is why this show is always a hit.  

 

Jan 11th and 12th

Director: Murray Mintz

Production Dates:

“Something’s Afoot”

 

Mar. 12 – Mar. 22, 2009

Needed:

4 Women (16-60)  3 – mezzo      1 - soprano

 

 

6 Men (16-60)        3 – tenors      3 – baritone

 

Those auditioning should be prepared to read and sing something from a Broadway show. Actors should bring their own music; an accompanist will be provided. 

Synopsis: A merry musical mystery featuring 10 “victims” stranded in an isolated mansion during a thunderstorm; deaths mount up but suspicious behavior is being carefully watched by the elderly Miss Tweed.  Will she solve this ridiculously funny and satirical mystery before we can guess, “Who done it?” 

 

Feb 15th and 16th

Apr. 16 – Apr. 26, 2009

Needed:

2 Women (40’s-60’s)     

 

 

1 Man (20’s-30’s)

 

Synopsis: Think Lucy & Ethel; think Paula Deen meets the Great Chefs of Europe; think laughter and light-hearted fun.  Two competing T.V. chefs have battled it out since Dolly married Isobel’s boyfriend, combining their shows could be the best or the worst decision the cable station ever made.  

 

All auditions start at 7:00 p.m. on the Sunday and Monday nights at the theater with the exception of September 24th which is a Wednesday night.
