THE Shakespearience
Two
week camp. JULY 29 - AUG 9, 2008
9AM through 4PM each day, ages 14-20, $295
Limited to 25 students.
"THE
SHAKESPEARIENCE:
Taming of the Shrew" will be a two week
musical theater
camp. This is a new twist on the classic genre. The program
makes Shakespeare accessible to a generation of young actors
who have little experience in this genre. Students take
daily acting classes and study the original classic
production of Shakespearian pieces. Using the original text
they create a modern version with modern characters in a
structured hands-on learning environment.
The
students will actually produce a show, relocating the
classic to New Jersey, adding 21st Century music and
updating the language to that spoken by kids today. In the
process, they will become familiar with Shakespeare's
language, and will seek the common social-cultural human
threads that connect every generation.
They
will design the programs, tickets, sets and costumes, all
with professional guidance. There will be at least one
teacher for every ten students.
Performances will be before live audiences at 7PM on
August 8th and 2PM on August 9th. Tickets $5, Open
seating.
Youth
Programs are conducted through
Footprints School of Performing Arts,
sponsored by and held at Francis Wilson Playhouse
