"The Gondoliers" |
May 12-14,2006 |
|
Gilbert & Sulivan's |
Two
gondoliers live in Venice and the women are swooning for
them as they decide on brides. A Spanish Duke with his
wife, the Duchess, daughter and "band" (consisting of
one drummer as that's all they can presently afford)
land in Venice on a quest to find the King of Barataria.
You see, the Duke and Duchess had married off their
daughter to the King when the King and their daughter
were both babies. They tell their daughter this upon
arriving in Venice, and you can imagine she isn't very
pleased as she is secretly in love with the poor family
drummer, and he in love with her. Alas, what sorrow!

Music and
Lyrics by Gil
Perlroth |

Who
was Francis Wilson? Why don’t we hear more about him?
Why was this theatre named after him? Here’s your
opportunity to meet and enjoy the Francis Wilson, who
rose to fame in the 1880’s and still a shining star on
Broadway into the 1920’s. He became the National Fencing
Champion in 1876, and went on to be a leading theatre
performer and dance man, play and musical writer,
founded an opera company, and was a resident of
Clearwater until his death in 1935. He was the first
president of Actors Equity and the man who raised the
funds to build Francis Wilson Playhouse in 1935. Written
especially for FWP by Gil Perlroth, and performed for
the first time at FWP, it is a lively musical with a
cast of 40+. |

is
a whimsical musical that is a takeoff on Cervantes famous
hero. Loosely, and with great editorial latitude, it is
based on Miguel de Cervantes' novel Don Quixote de la
Mancha, published for the first time in Madrid in 1605.
The music livens up this well known theme and the Teen
Camp performers add talent and enthusiasm. |

is
a humorous twist to Edgar Allan Poe's Fall of the House
of Usher and other Poe Writings. The macabre trapping
of Poe are viewed by our
Teen Camp
performers as a comedy that is sure to leave you
laughing. |

Teen Drama Summer Camp
Once again FWP is conducting a summer camp
for teens that includes acting, playwriting, directing,
movement, improvisation, basic stage craft, musical
theatre and play production. Lighting, sound and set
design/construction are all part of the curriculum. The 4
week program, 9:30 to 4:30, Mondays through Fridays, is
one of the most comprehensive teen theatre programs in the
country. Our staff, once again, includes Cindy Marcus,
Flip Kobler and Richard Poore, augmented by Domenic
Bisesti as resident choreographer. The fee is $350 for new
students and $300 for returning students. As usual
scholarships will be awarded when the need arises. |
