The Second Time Around
Comedy
Directed by David Middleton
Performed Sept 7-17 2006

Widowed seniors find romance in their
golden years, but when they decide to introduce each other to their
adult children, they meet with a wall of resistance and disapproval.
Although the children's own marriages are anything but perfect, they
don't hesitate to give relationship advice to their parents!
Funny, fast-paced, and full of witty
banter, this endearing comedy appeals to all ages.
Synopsis:
Senior citizens Samuel Jonas and Laura Curtis, a widower and a widow,
strike up a love affair. When they announce plans to live together
without marrying so they can keep social security benefits they'd
otherwise lose, their children hit the ceiling even though they were
never close to their deceased parent and their own marriages leave a lot
to be desired.
Sam's daughter is married to her ex analyst, a
stuffy neurotic, and Laura's son has a wife who is paranoid about food
additives and their sexual performance. All ends well for the elderly
twosome, but not before the entire second generation is in nervous fits.
And the surprise ending will be fun for everyone.
Comments from the Director:
"Love is lovelier, the Second Time Around"...so
the lyric of the Frank
Sinatra song goes and it's true. That is, as long as it's someone else's
mother or father who’s
falling in love. Somehow, we believe that as
our
parents mature, their thoughts of
intimacy and companionship
fade away. Or, maybe, we just find it hard to
accept that there might
be room for someone else in
their lives. The Second Time Around
takes a look at life and
love from the senior's point of view and finds
humor in
the opposition brought by
the young. But, let's face it,
young or old you can’t stop the course
of true love...any time around. It
has been great fun working with this talented cast to bring these
wonderful
characters to life. I
appreciate all their hard work and
patience for my idiosyncrasies.

- David is semi-retired and, after an
absence from theatre work for several years, has returned to active
participation in community theatre. This is David's first appearance as
