The Bishop Misbehaves
By Frederick Jackson
Directed by
Jim Demetrius
Presented October 5-15,2006
Synopsis:
–The Bishop, an
elderly and quite saintly dignitary, stops by accident with his equally
mild old sister in an ugly “pub” taproom just after there has been a
serious hold-up and robbery. The Bishop has always had a secret love of
the wickedness on display in detective stories, and here is his
holiday. He gobbles up clues like an old red rooster among beetles.
More that that, he snatches the swag. He leaves the evil place with the
stolen jewels in his own pocket. He knows the highwaymen will follow
him to the Bishop’s Palace. He hides the swag in the nearest humidor
and awaits his fate. The fate consists of several ruffians, a masked
hero and a suitable attractive heroine. Sometimes these enemies have
the Bishop at bay, sometimes he has them. It is a game of turning the
tables, turning out the lights, pistol-pointing, knife-brandishing,
out-guessing and out-confessing, until the hero and heroine have won the
Bishop’s Amen and the rumpus is finally over. Not that you don’t regret
that it’s over...because you’re still having fun.
Meet the Director
JIM
DEMETRIUS (Director) –
Jim has been performing and
working in local theatre since high school. His Lary winning sets may
outnumber his Lary winning performances (and maybe not) but he is an all
around performer. Here he’s challenged with creating the main character
while maintaining the objectivity necessary to a play director. He is
responsible for the entire cast’s performance as well as fitting himself
in as the Bishop. The set for
The Bishop Misbehaves
is his design and you can see
Jim’s personal artwork in the lobby art gallery. You see? Creating is
what Jim enjoys doing. He hopes this production will “create”
an enjoyable evening for you.
Stage Manager
“CJ” ROSEMIRE
(Stage Manager) - “CJ” became
interested in the theatre by assisting building sets. After working at
any theatre for a while it’s impossible not to be drawn to the stage
itself but, “CJ” (who did appear in
Francis Wilson – The Musical)
says he’s not ready to
perform before a live audience. He has, however, chosen to experience
the joys and frustrations of Stage Managing and he hopes you will like
our mischievous Bishop. He sends special regards to his Mom, Donna, and
Grandmother, Pat Duncan.
Meet the Cast
BRUCE J. BLACK
(Frenchy) – Bruce has
performed improvisation for years and as a volunteer at FWP he became
curious about acting. An audition lead to a role in
The Man Who Came to Dinner
(FWP) and his acting
addiction was started. He has since performed in
Ladies of the Jury
(FWP),
Life with Father
(FWP) and become a valued addition to
The Gilbert & Sullivan Players, performing in their productions of
Patience, The Grand
Duke and
The Gondoliers.
In real life his “role” is as a
professional engineer, as well as being a member of the Board of
Directors of Francis Wilson Playhouse.
DORIS CERIO
(Lady Emily Lyons) – Doris is
joining us for her second show at FWP. You’ve seen her here in
Oliver
and in productions at Tarpon Springs
Performing Arts and the Richey Suncoast Theatre. She is delighted to be
playing Lady Emily. “Thanks, Jim, for casting me.”
JIM DEMETRIUS
(Bishop of Broadminster) –
Jim has built sets for FWP for several years but you’ve also seen him on
our stage. He danced and sang for our audiences in
Sugar,
loved his curmudgeon of an uncle in
The Sunshine Boys,
frightened everyone out of their
seats in Oliver,
and those were only his most recent roles. Jim thanks his sweetheart,
Maria for her support and dedicates this production to his mother, Pat
(who is also a FWP volunteer).
RAY
KENNEY (Red Eagan) – Ray has
been performing at Francis Wilson Playhouse for 20 years. You’ve seen
him most recently in last season’s production of
The Foreigner.
As the former President of Francis
Wilson Playhouse, and currently Production Manager responsible for all
eight of FWP’s plays in the 2006-2007 season, Ray spends more hours in
the theatre each year than any other volunteer or employee.
LAURI KLEMAN
(Hester Grantham) – Lauri is
delighted to be making her FWP debut in
The Bishop Misbehaves.
She has been involved in
community theatre for the past five years and has performed in
productions on both sides of the Bay. You may have seen her in the
Gulfport Players
Summer One-Acts, There’s a Burglar in My Bed
(ICP),
Rumors
(Oakhurst) (Lary Award). “Heartfelt thanks to Jim for the opportunity
and Tracy for unwavering support.”
GEORGE
KOLITSAS (Collins) – George
was last seen here in our original production,
Francis Wilson, the Musical.
He’s appeared here and with
nearly every Bay area community theatre company over the last “many”
years. He hopes you enjoy our production and sends thanks to all of you
for supporting live theatre.
JOZIA
MIESZKOWSKI (Mrs. Waller) –
Jozia is also making her FWP debut in this production. However, she is a
well practiced performer having played in summer stock with the Kenley
Players in Ohio and with the Wilkes-Barre Little Theatre in
Pennsylvania. Trained in ballet from 11 years old, she has performed in
and directed ballet productions for The Wilkes-Barre Ballet Company, was
dance Director for the Mississippi University for Women and has
choreographed some 35 ballets.
MILTON O’NEAL
(Guy Waller) – Milt has
appeared on stage at SPLT, with the Oakhurst Theatre Company and four
times here at FWP. He feels privileged to be directed by Jim Demetrius,
with whom he has shared the stage in performances of
The Hound of the Baskervilles
and
Dial “M” for Murder
(FWP). Milt has two “Favorite Supporting Actor” Lary Awards for
past performances.
NATHAN PORTER
(Donald Meadows) – Nathan’s
life passion is acting and since high school he’s been able to enjoy
passion with performances in
The Complete Works of William
Shakespeare (Abridged) (Broadwick Players),
Nuncrackers (ICP),
and Oliver (FWP).
Aside from his acting he enjoys poetry, singing and Hip-Hop dance and is
aspiring to become a licensed massage therapist. He thanks the cast and
crew, family and friends for everything; “Break-a-leg, everyone!”
ED
RIFKIN (Mr. Brooke) – Born in
Chicago, now a Floridian, Ed relishes his acting career which started at
a young age. Back in the Chicago area Ed performed in
Dracula, The 7 Year Itch, Odd
Couple, The Rainmaker and
many more; he is delighted to be in FWP’s production of
The Bishop Misbehaves. |
