Dial “M” for Murder

Performed February 17-27, 2005

A mystery/thriller by:  Frederic Knott

Produced by special arrangement with
Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

The plot involves Tony, a retired tennis player who has quite obviously married his wife, Sheila, for her money. He then decides, after learning about Sheila’s affair with Max, a young writer of detective stories, that though he still quite fancies her money, he can survive quite happily without her. As a result, he concocts an ingenious plot to get rid of her, providing himself with a perfect alibi and the police with numerous red herrings.

One aspect of the murder remains to be sorted out, however. Who will strike the fatal blow? Fortunately, Tony comes across an old school friend, Captain Lesgate, living somewhat on the wrong side of the law. With a little gentle coercion, Lesgate is persuaded to carry out the deed.

Although the perfect murder doesn’t go as perfectly as planned, it seems at first that Tony has obtained the desired result. That is until Inspector Hubbard takes up the case…

Meet the Director

PAT CLARK (Director) -  Pat got her start in theatre in Maryland in the 1980's when she took a number of acting and directing classes.  She discovered that she favored directing and has pursued that goal successfully ever since.   Pat has been directing in this area since 1997. Some of her most memorable shows include: "Miracle on 34th Street", "Murder Can Be Habit-Forming", "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Pillow Talk", done for PAGES in Safety Harbor. For EOT she has directed several well known comedies - "Harvey" (nominated for a "favorite Comedy" Lary Award in 2002), "California Suite" and this season's opener, "Barefoot In The Park".  Pat is thrilled to make her FWP directing debut during this special 75th anniversary season!  She thanks Ray Kenney for this wonderful opportunity.  To her very talented cast and crew, she extends a heartfelt round of applause for their dedication and commitment to this classic thriller.

Meet the Cast

STEVE CAVERNO (Max Halliday) -  This is Steve's first appearance on the FWP stage. He recently graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in theatre.  In addition to acting, Steve's interests include play writing, songwriting, animation and video editing.  He's proud to be a part of such a talented cast and crew.  He'd like to send a special thanks to  his parents and grandparents for their support.

JIM DEMETRIUS (Tony Wendice) -  Jim is grateful for the opportunity to play this world-class villain.  Favorite past roles include Cervantes in "Man of La Mancha", Amos in "Chicago", and the King in "The King and I".  As always, Jim dedicates every show to his mother, Patricia, for her long years of dedication to him and sends very special thanks to his girlfriend Maria. Her support and patience enabled him to perform this role.

RHIANNON MOONEY (Margot Wendice) -  Rhiannon caught the performing "bug" early on while growing up in Illinois.  With the 11 years of dance recitals, community theatre, a competitive drama team, school plays, choral concerts and television commercials she always seemed to be performing on stage in some form.  After majoring in Performing Arts in college she moved to Florida and  took a break but found she couldn't stay away.  She is thrilled to be back on stage as Margot.

MILTON O'NEAL (Chief Inspector Hubbard) - Milt is a very active local theatre personality, and FWP is happy to welcome him back to our stage.  Among his many credits are Lary Awards for Favorite Supporting Actor in  "Ladies of the Camelias" at SPLT and "Laura" at FWP. He was nominated for Favorite Director for the Oakhurst Theatre's production of "Anybody For Murder"?  His credits would fill this whole page and more so we will stop here.

ANDREW RUFO (Officer Thompson) - Andy has worked behind the scenes recently at FWP and has been active with EOT for the past three years.  His theatre background extends from the Society Hill Playhouse and the Schubert Theatre in Philadelphia to ABC After School Specials, television commercials and a TV mini-series with Tommy Lee Jones in Los Angeles.

DENNIS WINCHESTER (Capt. Lesgate) - This is Dennis' first performance at FWP but he is an experienced performer.  Locally he has played, the telephone man in "Barefoot In The Park" at EOT and Kris Kringle in "Miracle on 34th Street" at PAGES.  He has also performed in musical theatre in New York.  He feels that without Cathy this opportunity could not be "acted" upon and sends her his "Love and thanks."

CATHY WINCHESTER (Stage Manager) - Cathy has been involved with community theatre for many years, both in New York and Florida - always behind the scenes.  "Once a techie, always a techie!" says she.  Cathy is excited to be working at FWP for the first time and thanks Ray and staff for the warm welcome.  She sends thanks to all her theatre friends for their friendship and support, and love always to Lesgate!
