Meet The Cast

The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker

By Liam O’Brien

 Directed By Scottie Michael

April 17-27 , 2008

DIRECTOR’S NOTES …

 NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR

This particular play's plot line gave me a bit of hesitation before I decided to accept the job of directing it.  Because it dawned on me (clunk on the head!) that it really was just a ridiculous romp of "free thinking" ideas, primed and shaped by an innovative egotist of the 1890's.

So, the cast and I are having a bit of a romp through our rehearsals in the hopes of bringing to you some snickers, snorts and girlish giggles with the story we are presenting.

It's life as it is, really: the odd and weird characters you find in every family.  You know, the uncle who is a complete embarrassment, the staid, dependable matron, the trouble-magnet kid, the firm, know-it-all father- you'll find them all right here.

So, relax, sit back and get ready for absurdity- 1890's style!

MEET THE DIRECTOR

SCOTTIE MICHAEL- Scottie hailed from Pelham, NY 32 years ago, began to feel restless, and promptly created her own job as director of The City Players, sponsored by the City of Clearwater's Parks and Recreation.  In 1989, she left to form her own group called Stage Agenda, performing most of the classics at Ruth Eckerd Hall's small black box theatre as well as other venues. "The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker" marks her 5th production at FWP and she always finds it a complete pleasure to direct here, especially with this zany, talented cast of actors.

MEET THE CAST

Barnes, Matt (Horace III) Matt is happy to be back at FWP!  He has acted here in "Bells Are Ringing" and has acted elsewhere in "Hello Dolly" in the chorus.  He is excited to be back acting and hopes you enjoy the show!!!:)

Ball, Joshua  (Understudy for Horace III) – Joshua has been in drama training since high school.  He has also had private training from Corrine Broskett at The Venue Actors Studio.  He is also training under Mary Fitzpatrick at the Marcia P. Hoffman Center at Ruth Eckerd Hall.  This is his first show.

Dunn, Dale (Aunt Jane Pennypacker) This is Dale's first acting performance in the local area.  She previously has performed at the Area Stage in Washington, DC and Clear Space Productions in Lewes, Delaware.  Dale participated in the first dance doctoral thesis at New York University, The Kadema Dancers of Tucson, Arizona, The Omaha Ballet and presently the Israeli Folk Dancers in Largo.  Dale's mother, Sylvia Devey, was a local theatrical actress and Beacon/Leader/Bee journalist.

Flament, Luke (Wilbur Fifield) is thrilled to be working with Scottie Michael again after having performed in six previous shows under her direction.  Favorite roles under her direction include the Tin Man in "Wizard of Oz", the Chief of Police in "Cops N' Robbers" and Mr. Darling in "Peter Pan."  His last appearance at FWP was as Dennis in "Murder At The Vicarage".  Used to typically playing comedic roles, he enjoys the challenge of finally playing a much more serious dramatic role.

Foster, Fred  (Horace "Pa" Pennypacker, Jr.) Fred is very pleased to be making his debut performance at the FWP.  He has appeared at several theatre companies locally, most recently in the Early Bird Dinner Theatre's production of "Out of Order".  Favorite shows include "You Can't Take It With You", "Bus Stop", "Murder at the Howard Johnson's", "The Dining Room" and "Return Engagements".  Always one to "foster" the development of the arts, Fred thanks the audience for their support of live theatre.

Fudens, John (Quinlan/Sheriff) Nice to continue working at Francis Wilson Playhouse, my favorite theatre.  It’s even nicer to be back with Scottie, one of my favorite directors.  Hope everyone enjoys the show.

Goldman, Pennie (Emily "Ma" Pennypacker)  Pennie has been performing since her early days in summer stock in Fishkill, NY.  Most recently she reprised her role as Yente in "Fiddler on the Roof".  Her favorite role is Gooch in "Mame". She is no stranger to Francis Wilson Playhouse having performed in several plays over the past 23 years.  Pennie dedicates all her performances to the memory of her hubby, Freddee.  Thanks Scottie for giving me the chance to play Emily.

Hammesfah, Austin (Teddie Pennypacker) is thrilled to be back on the Francis Wilson stage.  Austin would like to thank the cast, crew, and Scottie for such a wonderful experience.  That's all folks!

Merker, Jordan (Ben Pennypacker) Jordan is in the 7th grade at Safety Harbor Middle School.  This is Jordan's third performance at FWP, first appearing as one of Fagin's boys in "Oliver" in 2006, and returning the same year as Craycroft in "Francis Wilson the Musical".  Playing Ben feels like a natural roll for Jordan, as he is also the youngest sibling in his own family.  Jordan would like to thank the entire cast for another great production!

O'Neal, Milton (Dr. Fifield) Six months ago, Milt felt his age limited him to roles as scarce as hens' teeth.  However, good fortune has landed him onstage for three consecutive appearances.  He has taken part in comedies, dramas and musicals in four Pinellas community theatres, with two Lary Awards – Favorite Supporting Actor in the comedy "Ladies of the Camellias" and the mystery "Laura" (right here at Francis Wilson Playhouse).  Milt is only nine years old.

Reeves, Kyle (Henry Pennypacker) This is Kyle's first performance at FWP.  He as appeared with City Players in "Hello Dolly" and "Carousel".  He is currently attending St Petersburg Junior College majoring in Zoology.

Refo, Hayley (Laurie Pennypacker) This is Hayley's first appearance at Francis Wilson Playhouse.  Hayley has appeared in numerous roles in school productions including "A Midsummer Night's Play" and "Not Fit for Man or Beast".  She has also done performances at Winter Wonderland in downtown Clearwater.

Stutzel, Rick (Grampa Pennypacker) This is Rick's 5th appearance at FWP, dating back to 1998, and his seventh show under the direction of Scottie Michael.  When not rehearsing with this fabulous cast and crew, he teaches at Palm Harbor Middle School.

Thompson, Laura (Kate Pennypacker) Laura is 17 years old and is a junior at Indian Rocks Christian School.  She does a youth production during the summer with the director; however this is her first year in an adult play.  Other credits include "Flapper" (Margaret), "Fiddler on the Roof Jr." (Yente), and "Cinders" (Queen Opal).  First, she would like to thank her God and Savior Jesus Christ, without who, she is nothing.  She would also like to thank her friends and family.  You guys are great.  And lastly, she would like to thank the cast and crew of "The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker".  I love you all, you all are awesome!

 MEET THE STAGE MANAGER

RITA KITENPLON – Having just come off the boards in the season opener "Odd Couple", the female version, Rita is back behind the scenes. Rita has stage managed several shows at FWP including last years "Second Time Around " , where she first worked with Maureen Searle. Her other credits both on the stage and off include, Mr. Angel, Anna's Brooklyn Promise, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Auntie Mame.  She is thrilled to be working with such a wonderful and talented group and thanks her husband Steve for his patience and understanding."
