Ruddigore .
An exuberant, high kicking and altogether bouncy male
chorus competes for centre stage with the flighty,
pre-Raphaelite beauty of the female chorus in the Gilbert
and Sullivan Players’ production of Ruddigore.
Do you
like ghosts? Ruddigore has plenty of ghosts. What about
witches? We have one that cursed a baronet. Want young
village maidens? What about men dressed in Dragoon guard’s
uniforms? Yes, you've guessed it. We have those too. In
short it's all typical Gilbert and Sullivan but done from
the Gilbert & Sullivan Players’ angle. A more detailed
explanation of the Ruddigore plot is for those who don't
like surprises.
The songs
from the show are simply great. From numbers such as "When
the Night Wind Howls", or "Painted Emblems" sung by ghosts
to "Welcome Gentry" sung by the Dragoons, villagers and
pretty maidens. There's even a hornpipe thrown in if you
still yearn for Pirates of Penzance. |
