"Sugar"

Performed Nov 4 - 14, 2004

MUSICAL Book by, Peter Stone
Lyrics & Music by Bob Merrill

Millionaires, pretty girls, music and mobsters play hide and seek in Miami in the 1920s. Our show gives a hilarious musical interpretation of the movie "Some Like it Hot". Two musicians on the run from the mob escape by traveling incognito with a girl's jazz band. They may escape the mob, but they cannot escape the complications of true love.

About the Director

DICK POOLE - Dick has worked at FWP for over 13 years as an Actor, Costumer, or Director in;  My Fair Lady, Gigi, The King and I, The Sound of Music, Teahouse of the August Moon, and Brigadoon, - just to name a few.  He has won Lary awards in all categories and enjoys working at FWP because of its intimate atmosphere and the wonderful cooperation of the staff.  He would like to dedicate this show to the memory of his good friend Bruce Blaine.

Meet the Musical Director

MARY ANN BOOS  -  FWP is delighted to welcome Mary Ann back.  She is a well known Bay Area musician credited with over 67 different musical productions.  Her most recent engagement was Hello Dolly at Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center (TSPAC) last September.  Mary Ann has received four Lary Awards for Favorite Musical Director as well as the prestigious Marcelle Oldershaw Lifetime Achievement Award in theatre.

Meet the Choreographer

CELESTE CUMMINS - Celeste is originally from New Orleans and she started dancing at age 10.  Most recently, Celeste has worked in shows under the direction of Dick Poole and has appeared in several shows at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre.  She sends a special thanks to the entire cast for all their hard work and to Dick for giving her the opportunity to choreograph this terrific production of SUGAR!

The Place:

 Chicago, Miami & In-between

The Time:          1931

Meet the Cast

MICHAEL AMYX (Jerry/Daphne) - Michael is a student at Seminole H.S. and a member of the Seminole Singers.  He's appeared with the City Players and in school productions but this is his first FWP show.  He is honored to be working with the "funniest and finest" cast ever.

DIANE ARADI (Delores) - Recently arrived from the Chicago land area. Diane is new to FWP but not to the stage.  She performed as Jane in The Women for EOT.  She and her husband, Lester, love Florida and Diane thanks Lester for "all your support - XXOO."

CODY CARLSON (Bellboy/Hood) - Cody, a Gulf H.S. freshman, has appeared in Mame, Zorba and as Ambrose Kemper in Hello Dolly at TSPAC.  He is enjoying Sugar and hopes to do many more shows in the future.

MELISSA K. COLLINS (Olga) - Still another FWP debut; Melissa is thrilled to be in this show.  She performed as a dancer in Guys and Dolls at the Suncoast Richey Theatre and would like to thank Dick for this opportunity and her Mom and Dad for their constant support.

CHRISTINA CUMMINGS (Band Girl) - Christina, born in Dallas, Texas, studied theatre at Weschester H.S. in Los Angeles and Cal State University.  She has appeared on MTV and currently studies Criminal Justice at St. Pete College.

KATIE DEHETRE (Band Girl) - On her way to Broadway, Katie has performed as Ermengarde in Hello Dolly for TSPAC and in the chorus of the Tampa Opera.  Katie thanks her friends and family, especially Keith, for their support. Love to Mom and thanks to Dad for all you've done.

JIM DEMETRIUS (Spats) - A stage veteran, Jim loves theatre; first as an actor and also as an award winning set designer.  Jim dedicates this show to his mother for her years of dedication to him.  "Love you Ma!"

JOHN FUDENS (1st Hood/Old Man) - This is John's third play at FWP; he was seen last spring, as lawyer Halsey Van Stye in Ladies of the Jury.  Sugar is his second play working with Dick Poole and John says it has been another memorable experience.

GEORGE KOLITSAS (Sir Osgood Fielding) - V.P. in Of Thee I Sing, Mailroom Boss in How To Succeed, and now a MILLIONAIRE in Sugar, George is a great asset to FWP.  To Dick, Mary Ann, Celeste, and the cast and crew of Sugar, THANKYOU.  To our audience - ENJOY!

NICHOLAS LISCIANDRO (Knuckles/Old Man) - Nicholas is a veteran of FWP having played Judge Fish in Ladies of The Jury.  He appeared as Big Jule in Guys and Dolls at Suncoast Richey Theatre and now he is a gangster again in Sugar.  Welcome back Nick, but ya' gotta "go straight" next time.

MARY LEE ROSS (Sweet Sue) - Mary has multitudes of stage credits, most notably, a Lary winning performance in Stage Agenda's Much Ado About Nothing and FWP's Miss Prism in Importance of Being Earnest. She's glad to be working with Dick and Mary Ann again. She also thanks Celeste for her patience.

KATHERINE RUSSO (Band Girl) - Although a veteran performer, this is Katherine’s first time appearance at FWP.   We're glad she has finally found us.  She's happy to be working with old friends and new and sends many thanks to her family and friends for their love and support.

DR. JOHN PATRICK SMITH (Dude/Old Man) - Where else can you be a Japanese Emperor one week, a murderous gangster the next and a "mild-mannered" veterinarian by day? Theatre is GREAT!  Rascally John and FWP thank Angie, (his lovely wife/our stage manager) for keeping an eye on him.

TOVI SNAPSTAILER (Band Girl) -  Tovi, a junior at Palm Harbor University H. S. loves theatre and song and dreams of performing on Broadway.   Her credits include parts in Fiddler On The Roof, Guys and Dolls, Annie, The Wizard of OZ and Once On This Island which was performed at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

KEITH SURPLUS (Cab Driver/Old Man/First Henchman) - Keith has performed in "1776", The King & I, and as Barnaby Tucker in Hello Dolly.  He thanks Dick Poole, his friends and family for their support.

KAYLA TYSON (Rosella) - Kayla, also new to FWP, has been in several community theatre productions in the Tampa Bay area; Carousel with City Players, Hello Dolly and State Fair among them.  A big thank you to Dick Poole for casting her.  "Cheese and Crackers"...her favorite!

RANK SWEENEY (Joe/Josephine) - Another FWP debut! Most recently, Frank appeared in Zorba at TSPAC.  He is enjoying working with Dick again and gets more than "toe-tingles" and steamy glasses working with his wife, Wendy, who plays Sugar Kane.

WENDY SWEENEY (Sugar Kane) - Wendy played Auntie Mame in TSPAC's musical production of Mame and she recently appeared as "The Woman" in their  Zorba. She's delighted to be working with Dick again and loves steaming -up her husbands glasses in this show.

JULES VICKERS (Bienstock) - Jules is happy to be a part of this endearing production.  Jules was Arts and Entertainment commentator for ABC's affiliate (WWSB) in Sarasota and appeared at FWP in Light Up The Sky.  He thanks his dog "Poochie" for allowing him time for rehearsals.

ANGELA SMITH (Stage Manager) - Angie has proven herself invaluable to every production she works on.  FWP's H.M.S. Pinafore could not have set sail without her and Sugar would melt away in confusion.  Her husband (Dude) is only one among many in thanking her for giving her time and abilities to us.
