PLAY READING COMMITTEE

June 2010 will start the play reading activity for the 2011/2012 season.  Meetings will be held approximately every 2 weeks.  If you are a member and  would like to join our Play Reading Committee, call the box office at 727-446-1360 or e-mail  fwpPlayreading@franciswilsonplayhouse.org  to be added to the notification list.  Meetings are normally scheduled for 10 AM on every other Saturday morning from mid-June through to mid-October.

The theatre supplies the scripts, and members read them at home (about 3 each week -- they take about an hour each). At the meeting, the suitability of each script is discussed. The committee chairperson takes notes and gradually a consensus emerges. By mid October, the slate of recommendations  for the  following season is ready to present to the board.

We have lots of fun reading old chestnuts, new chestnuts and everything in between.

Each year we try to aim at two big musicals, one smaller musical, one drama, one mystery and three comedies. Sometimes we find plays that fit into more than one category.

We encourage local play writers who have full length scripts to submit them for consideration.

We strongly encourage our patrons, besides our actors and board members to participate in the play reading.  This committee makes the recommendations for our next seasons plays and is very important.

If you have any favorites for us to consider for our 2009/2010 season, let us know.  Plays must please our audience and fit our stage ...Hannibal Crossing The Alps might be entertaining to watch, but it would be impossible to cast, and cost a fortune to clean up the stage every night!!

Do you wish to see more of a certain type of play...

Mysteries
Comedies
Warm Drama
Musicals

(Remember that musicals cost much more to put on, and we might have to raise our prices if we do more.)
