ATTENTION VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers – Do you have a retired spouse around the house either under foot or bored with life and that needs to have something rewarding and fun to do.  We have a great place for them and you to contribute.  No special talents required, we will find something you or they can do for the volunteer front.  See if your ambitions meet some of our openings. Complete the form link and submit your information.

This is a great opportunity to join an interesting group of folks and feel good about how you spend some of your spare time.  Becoming involved makes an activity more interesting.

Join us and meet new people, learn new skills, see live theatre and above all, have FUN!

Become a Playhouse Volunteer!

Our volunteers' generous donation of time and spirit is an important ingredient in our success as a world class theatre company. As a not-for-profit organization, The Francis Wilson Playhouse Theatre Company relies heavily on the hard work and energy of volunteers. Our volunteers are a necessary and much appreciated part of The Playhouse family.

Volunteering for The Playhouse gives you a thrilling, behind the scenes look at what it takes to get a production off the page and onto the stage. Here are some of the exciting things you could help us out with:

FWP runs on “volunteers” – Our actors, our back-stage technical staff, our ushers, our Librarian, and our Board of Directors to name a few.  But, as a Not-for-Profit organization we are always looking for more volunteers.  We always have immediate openings.  See if your ambitions meet some of our openings. Call the Box Office and volunteer.

Board of Directors – Business background most appreciated.  Requires one 2-4 hour Board Meeting each month, one night per performance as house manager and chair of a committee and any other time we can steal from you.

Ushers – We can always in need of additional users. We always need substitutes because life is not always what we choose.  Regular ushers can't always make their scheduled nights and it is a great opportunity for substitutes.  If we have extra volunteers beyond those needed any extras may stay based on seat availability.  We want you to know that we appreciate the time and effort all of you give the theatre.

Spot Light Operator – Needed mostly for the musicals, but for some of the other shows.

Set Building - Our set designer usually needs extra pairs of hands with set construction.  Sometimes it just means holding the other end of a board.  At the end of the show there is a big demand to help "strike" the set to prepare for the next set.

Building Maintenance- Building maintenance is a continuous problem when a building is 65 years old  and in continuous use, the challenges are endless.  Our Building Maintenance Manager is constantly loaded with work and never has enough hands.  He is delighted with all volunteer help.

Librarian – To help preserve our 79 Season History, to keep track of scripts, newspaper articles, photo albums, etc.  You even get a private office (the library).

Box Office Assistant – Especially at the beginning of our annual Membership Drive.  All types of data entry and other clerical duties as well as helping during shows.

Marketing – Everything from art and design to putting out brochures.  We especially need marketers who live in structured living facilities (condo’s, assisted living facilities, etc.) to tell the story of FWP, put out our brochures and organize groups.

Gardener – Green thumb required.  Inside and outside positions available.  Any help would be appreciated.

Party Organizer (and Party Assistants) – Be our Host/Hostess for the various social events (“Meet the Directors”, “Holiday Social”, "Volunteer Appreciation", Premier Receptions, etc).  Planning, Decorating, shopping, menu selection, etc.

Play Reading Committee – Help nominate and select the next season shows.  Must like to read, have a sense of humor and be ready to argue for your nominees.  Meetings held all summer every two weeks.

Tour Guides – Conduct “back stage” theatre tours before each of our live performances. Must like to talk.

Audio Visual – Background with PA systems, repairing light fixtures, fixing mike cords, etc. Top-of-the-ladder and bottom-of-the-ladder assignments.

Rehearsal Musicians – Piano players for musical rehearsals.

Dresser - Actors frequently need lots of assistance with all the quick costume changes required during the course of a performance.  If you wonder how they can come out in a completely different costume in 1-2 minutes, you guessed it.  It is the the help of the dressers.

Wardrobe Assistant – Inventory, “cull out”, categorize wardrobe items, box (and re-box after shows) no washing or ironing. If you can do a little sewing that would help, but not required. Must be able to tell the difference between men’s and woman’s clothing.

Script Girl (or man) – A person who holds the script during rehearsals and feed line to the actors when they forget a line (or more).

Fund Raiser – If you have experience at Fund raising, or would like to get some experience in this area, we have an opening for you. We are looking for help to fund a new carpet in the lobby and to purchase new seats for the auditorium.  Must be able to get money out of people and institutions.
